It’s been a really long time since I’ve posted an update on this site so I’ll just jump right into it: We sold our bungalow in May 2023, just shy of eight years of ownership.
It was really tough…like saying goodbye to a family member. But life and work circumstances took me out of Chicago. So here I am in Quincy, Illinois typing this from my new project house: an 1896 historic former rectory and convent. It’s so freaking cool.
If you think this is a break up letter, it’s not. I started this blog to document my journey as a homeowner in Chicago (a city that offers barely any resources to help homeowners combat the deferred maintenance of their aging stock of affordable housing). But I’ll admit, documenting, researching, learning, and sharing that process in real-time (while working full-time) was really challenging. Inconsistent at best, non-existent at worst.
It’s really hard to offer resources to others when you’re trying to research their validity and viability for yourself. I probably started this blog eight years too early (if I’m being honest) but I know I have valuable knowledge to continue to share.
Here’s what to expect moving forward: I’m pulling everything off of the blog temporarily (except this post). I plan on restructuring my current content and re-posting it, as well as generating new content. A re-launch of the site is scheduled for September 2023 (one post at a time). I hope you’ll stick around to see where this goes.
