Tool Tuesday: Hive tool

On the last Tuesday of every month I’ll share one tool in my toolbox that I can’t live without (and a couple of reasons why you shouldn’t live without it either) along with links to where you can buy it.

First up: my hive tool or beekeepers tool

I purchased a set of these back in 2020 and I need to buy some more because I use them for everything.

Two flat pry bars called hive tools with yellow handles crisscrossed.

What I like about them

  1. They’re super flat! Which is great removing trim, scraping, etc.
  2. They are the perfect tool for working on windows: You can sharpen them on a grinder, remove old glazing, remove nails, scrape, use them as a chisel with a hammer, just about anything you can think of.
  3. They’re lightweight, small, and flexible. They have a decent amount of bend and give, unlike a cat’s paw or wonder bar. I like to use them to work all the way up and down a piece of trim to loosen it up before attempting to remove with anything stronger.
